KEIM x SB5IVE Concrete Correction Masterclass: Rethinking What’s Possible with Architectural Concrete

On 10 June, KEIM Australia hosted the SB5IVE Concrete Correction Masterclass at our Sydney showroom, bringing together architects, builders, developers and construction professionals for a practical, hands-on look at architectural concrete refinement.
Led by the SB5IVE team, the masterclass explored one of the most common challenges in contemporary construction: what happens when architectural concrete does not meet expectations?
Rather than defaulting to demolition, replacement or concealment, the session focused on intelligent correction strategies. Through live demonstrations, material mock-ups and open discussion, SB5IVE showed how existing concrete surfaces can be repaired, refined, visually enhanced and protected long term.

A Practical Approach to Concrete Correction
Architectural concrete is often specified for its honesty, permanence and material character. But in practice, the finished result can be difficult to control. Variations in colour, patching, blowholes, surface inconsistencies and construction marks can all impact the final appearance.
The masterclass demonstrated how these issues can be approached with precision and care.
Across the day, SB5IVE shared techniques for cleaning, retouching, reprofiling and refining concrete surfaces, showing how even challenging areas can be elevated into consistent, architectural-quality finishes.
The focus was not simply on repair. It was about understanding concrete as a visible design surface and treating it with the same level of detail and craftsmanship as any other architectural material.
