Keim Lotexan is a siloxane based water repellent treatment for use on alkaline mineral substrates such as concrete and new cementitious renders. For mineral substrates having a lower alkalinity, such as weathered natural stone, Keim Lotexan N was developed as a dedicated generic variant.
When applied Keim Lotexan soaks into the substrate and, having a small molecular size, coats the pores of the mineral structure. A chemical reaction takes place converting the siloxane into a silicone layer on the pores of the substrate which provides water repellency while maintaining the vapour permeability.
Keim Lotexan is a beneficial alternative to silicone which has a much larger molecular size and tends to fill the pores rather than coating them, reducing breathability.
